APF Nationals • Chicago, IL
Saturday, June 5

Nationals happened on Saturday. I had been hitting PR's in the past month so I felt really good going into it. I also am back in GEAR.....and I must say....it feels great! ( I think I once heard someone say ...." raw is for suckers" ) ....did I say that right , Kirk? lol.

We luckily didn't have to drive too far...APF Nationals were in Chicago at the Sheraton by O'Hare. Nice and close.

Anyway...squat was first. I opened at 365 lbs, and like I've done in the past.....I get nervous and don't always listen to the judges commands. It's funny, because you can train 4 days a week, hit PR's , be a star at your gym....and then you get into a room with everyone watching you and things fall apart. For me.....right away, squat rack felt different, the bar felt different, bar height, platform under my feet, room noise.....and that big JUDGE guy sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME STARING ME IN THE FACE!!! OMG, that threw me off big time. My balance out of the rack was off, I went down and came back up and teetered on my feet and got 3 REDS!! NOOOOOOOO! The I thought it was because I moved my feet but she told me I didnt' wait for the front judge's "squat" command. What? I don't even remember it!
So for the 2nd lift, I stayed at the same weight...looking back on it, I should've went higher. But I hit 365 just fine.
I'm a head case.....Kirk goes up to the table and gives them my next lift...I don't even want to know it. I do the same thing at the gym. I don't want to know what's on the bar. Just put it on there, I'll lift it. No thinking about it. Just think about form, not the weight. So he had them put 402.2 lbs and I had no problem.
I did have a problem ....my hamstring cramped so bad on the way down because the knee wraps were so tight. Kirk got a workout that morning getting the wraps the tightest I've ever had them. It was awesome. But today is Monday and I'm still feeling it.

Next was bench. I don't even remember what my first lift was, but it was easy. Second attempt was 231.2 lbs and that was easy too. But on 3rd attempt, 245 just stuck there ....I got it off my chest but then couldn't finish it. Weird. But at least I didn't get called for not listening to commands this time!!

Last lift was the Deadlift. I was tied with Debbie Damminga at this point. I opened with 365...not a problem. Second attempt was 374.7. Kirk came back and said the last lift was going to be HUGE. Harder than I've ever tried and I had to this no matter what. Don't stop pulling, just rip it off the floor. So I tried. I got it to my knees. 400 lbs. went back to the floor. And........DONE. 2nd place.

I'll be ordering a new suit this week. I think I was the only one in single ply---I felt a bit underdressed.

Worlds--Finland....November. nuff said.
